Cinemax, Scott Rudin Adapting 'Swamplandia' (Exclusive)
Cinemax will Florida with Scott Rudin. The premium cable network has acquired Swamplandia, half-hour comedy project from Rudin based on Karen Russell's book of the title. Swamplandia involves Ava Bigtree, a 12-year-old alligator wrestler who embarks by having an improbable journey using the mangrove backwoods of southwest Florida as she searches for her lost sister. Searching is showed up for just about any author round the project, with Rudin installed on executive produce the comedy and author Russell speaking to. Feature producer Rudin (The Social Media) has several projects setup at Cinemax, including Aaron Sorkin's untitled cable news drama with Rob Daniels, which was acquired to series in September. Furthermore, Rudin is installed on Noah Baumbach's adaptation of Jonathan Frazen's The Corrections and Cynthia Mort's half-hour comedy based on scribe Mary Karr's existence. Swamplandia marks Russell's first novel and second book overall. Her work has came out inside the anthology The Most Effective American Short Tales as well as the NYer, among others.
